Our journey began in February of 2019. We launched by planning group volunteering events in Massachusetts with the purpose of creating volunteering experiences for those who identified with the African Diaspora and those who wanted to volunteer alongside us. With each volunteering event we created, our vision to diversify the volunteering field came to fruition.
The interest to volunteer in a space accepting of individuals that identified with the African Diaspora increased. In addition to our traditional group volunteering events, we created our signature event Volunteer & Mingle, which allowed our volunteers to build community while volunteering and afterwards while enjoying a meal together. We expanded our volunteering to more cities within Massachusetts, as well as had the opportunity to volunteer in Washington D.C., and Ghana.
Our impact increased as we volunteered at numerous organizations, created volunteering opportunities of our own when we saw a need in our communities, partnered with local groups and companies to create volunteering experiences for their members, partnered with local organizations to diversify their volunteering community, and shared community involvement opportunities in our e-newsletters. Through our hands on volunteering experiences and community engagement, one thing was clear: representation matters.
In August of 2020 we became a Nonprofit organization. Same mission. Same vision. Greater impact.
As a nonprofit, we continue to provide charitable services, namely, organizing and conducting volunteer programs and community service projects to promote diversity in the volunteering field by providing opportunities for individuals who identify with the African Diaspora.
